Straightforward simple and very very efficient. If you want to bring your car in the ferry you need to plan ahead. Don't act like a summer jerk and park your car in the loading zone - it won't take long for someone to ask you politely to move it. Plan on spending ten to Fifteen bucks a day on parking, the lot is almost always nearly full but a space is available if you look.
Like clockwork... please do everybody a favor and read up on the process online before showing up, it makes things faster and easier on those around you.
The only way I know to get to Vinalhaven, pretty reasonable price I think.
Timing and booking takes a bit of work. But the ferry itself is fantastic, on time, clean and very efficient. We took a few times back and forth from mainland to North haven. Was most fun in the dense fog :) definitely get out on the car deck and feel the breeze.
